  THE SOCIETY

We started in 1984 and have been going from strength to strength ever since.

We have regular meetings,  have set up a lively, independent museum in the heart of Tavistock and even if you're not within striking distance, you can find out about the history of this fascinating town through our publications.

THE TOWN

Lying for a thousand years under the western ramparts of Dartmoor, knocked around by vikings and cavaliers, run in turn by a great monastery and then  by the dukes of Bedford and industrialised and de-industrialised well ahead of the rest of the country, Tavistock still bears many traces of its colourful past.

This town, as the vikings and so many others have said, is well worth a little visit.
